Compare requirements, not rumors

AI can assemble competitor information quickly, including inaccurate or stale claims. A useful battlecard helps a rep ask which requirement matters and compare verifiable differences. It should not teach them to repeat an unsupported weakness.

Use current public documentation and approved internal evidence. Record the product version, date and source. A missing feature in an old document does not prove that a competitor lacks it today.

Build the card around buyer requirements such as access control, review flow or exportability. Avoid vague claims that your tool is smarter or more advanced.

Prompt for a source-backed card

Compare these supplied official sources against the buyer requirements. Include the source and date for each factual comparison. Mark unknowns. Do not infer that an undocumented feature is unavailable, invent customer results or use disparaging language. Separate our approved positioning from externally verified competitor facts.

Worked example

The buyer asks whether both options can update a particular CRM field. One vendor's documentation confirms reading records, but not that write action. The correct comparison is "write action unconfirmed in the reviewed source," not "competitor cannot integrate with CRM."

The rep can suggest an evaluation test so the buyer obtains a definitive answer in their environment.

Review and expiry

Assign an owner to each competitive card. Check source changes and withdraw stale claims. Make it easy for a rep to report contradictory evidence. Do not let the assistant retrieve an obsolete comparison merely because it is well written.

Practice a fair response

Have the rep answer a buyer who prefers the other option. The goal is to clarify decision criteria and honestly explain fit, including where your service may not be right. Pair this with objection practice and vendor evaluation.

Turn an uncertain comparison into a buyer test

Suppose a buyer asks whether two tools can prepare an answer from current company sources and show the supporting document. Instead of declaring a winner from marketing pages, propose the same permitted question and source pack for both. Ask the buyer to inspect source traceability, unsupported claims and the review process.

Keep the test tied to the requirement that matters. A tool may perform well on one task and poorly on another. Your rep should be able to acknowledge that without undermining the useful parts of your own offer. Fair comparisons are more credible when they help the buyer understand the tradeoff.

A battlecard update checklist

  • Each factual claim has a source and checked date.
  • The comparison refers to the correct product and plan.
  • Unknowns are explicitly labeled.
  • Reps know what requires technical confirmation.
  • Obsolete claims are withdrawn from the active library.

Ask a manager to review a rep's competitive answer in a practice conversation. Does the rep clarify the buyer's requirement, or repeat a slogan? Does the response contain an unsupported claim about another company? Correct the source or coaching gap before the answer reaches buyers. Treat the battlecard as a maintained working aid, not a permanent description of a market that continues to change.
